It should be known to all Freemasons that the year 2017 marks the 300th anniversary of the formation of the first Grand Lodge. Since the Grand Lodge of England was formed from subsequent bodies it is no secret that we have existed prior to 1717. Manuscripts and records indicate that Freemasons were around as early as the 14th century, if not earlier. Making the claim that we are the oldest fraternity in the world is a humbling truth. What is so humbling is that we withstood the test of time. The spiritual principles that are embedded within our society transcend time. After all, they are no secret to the world, but a majority of the world has taken them for granted.

The ability to co-exist with humanity in the face of adversity is a testament to our commitment to higher principles. We have been charged with safekeeping the secrets of God and Nature. Whether we are aware of it or not, we are transmitting a secret art form to every initiate. There is an energy that we imbue each candidate with. I am cautious with my words for I am not permitted to speak of certain mysteries that may or may not become apparent to the seekers of light.

Fortitude, patience, and courage will aid the true seekers in coming to understand the highest mysteries of our Craft. If you intend on penetrating the veil of our mysteries, then the aforementioned attributes will aid you in your quest. Careful analysis and application of these three principles will reveal necessary keys to understanding the path. For over 300 “formal” years we have endured. This is a macrocosm of our individual journey. So I must say that we have stood for something all of these years. As individuals we MUST stand for something, or we will fall for everything. Let us unite under the Altar and continue to withstand the challenges of time.

Worshipful Brother,

Nic C
